The Diary of Memories
The inspiration of capturing the moment
This digital diary app emerged from wanting a more intentional way to document daily moments. Traditional social media felt too performative, while note-taking apps lacked visual richness. The concept centered on creating a personal space that balanced privacy with selective sharing. The design embraces a polaroid-inspired aesthetic with customizable themes. The interface prioritizes creative expression through photo decoration, handwritten notes, and drawing capabilities while maintaining organized, date-based structure. Core features include instant photo capture with sticker customization, theme selection, and private link sharing. The diary format automatically organizes entries by date, creating an easy-to-navigate visual timeline. The result bridges personal expression and digital organization, creating an authentic diary experience.
I'm a designer, not a developer
The project was fully coded using Cursor to test rapid learning and implementation capabilities. Technical challenges included photo storage solutions, database configuration, and share functionality implementation. Research through technical documentation and troubleshooting articles revealed the ID reference issue. Correcting the database query structure resolved the link generation, enabling consistent sharing functionality. The process required learning database setup and security measures for site stability.
Here is what I learned
Consistency beats difficulty. You keep showing up, debug one issue at a time, leverage AI tools strategically, and eventually you break through. This project fundamentally changed how I approach design. I now understand the technical constraints better, can troubleshoot basic errors independently, and incorporate AI into my workflow to iterate faster. This project taught me I don't have to stay in my lane. If I want to build something, I'll figure it out.
